Black and white Infrared Films |
||
|
Historically, black-and-white infrared film has been used for several scientific, forensic, and environmental applications. Many years ago, photographers discovered the esthetic and creative potential of this material. They found they could literally create images that could not be seen or experienced by any other means. Thus, they could turn the invisible into the visible. The images were unlike anything else in our visual experience. Infrared film lends itself to portrait, still-life, abstract, and particularly landscapes. Black-and-white IR prints are unmistakable, exhibiting an unworldly tonality with biting, highly visible grain and an overall textured, contrasty appearance. Handled with care and intelligence, black-and-white IR images let us see the world in a way unimagined by anyone fifty years ago.
