Filters come in four basic forms and can
be purchased or cut in round, square, rectangular, or odd shapes on
special order. The four configurations are as follows:

Thin, square gelatin filters that require
a holder and lens adaptor.

Number series sized round glass filters
needing a retainer and lens adaptor to fit onto a lens.

Threaded glass or plastic filters that
screw directly onto the front of a lens.

Plastic or resin squares that fit a
holder and a screw in the lens adaptor.
